But what do you do if you cannot stop the water? If it's a water pipe leading to a tap ot toilet, trace the pipe to either an isolation valve or attempt to find the main stop tap. This is usually located under the main kitchen sink or possibly in a cupboard under the stairs. You should you then turn on the cold taps to let the water drain. If you do not have a combination boiler, you may have a hotwater tank which you will need to empty.
To drain the hotwater tank just open the hotwater tap until the water has drained.
What to do to isloate a leak from the central heating system. Your leak may be from a raditor or radiator pipe. This is just as easy to isolate if you know where to look. Once again, first look for the mainstop tap which as you know will be located either under the kitchen sink or stairs (should your stop tap not be in either of those places, find the main water pipe and trace the pipe back.). There may be an isolation valve on the raditor.
To drain the central heating system you will need a hose long enough to reach either a sink or outdoors. The hose will be connected to the drain off valve on one of the raditors. If there isnt a drain of valve, then you need a few buckets to empty the water from the leak until completely drained.
